THE SKIN – THE SEBACEOUS GLANDS

Our skin is like living leather, with a built-in automatic lubrication system in the sebaceous glands that becomes active in accordance with the skin’s needs. Dry skin (lacking oil) is extremely sensitive, making one much more susceptible to colds and infections, and also to radiation damage. When washing with soap, not only is the dirt removed but sebum is dissolved at the same time. This means that the skin is deprived of the necessary oil and its protective function is diminished. For this reason it is especially important in the winter to use a good skin oil after washing with soap. Experience has shown that St John’s wort oil is the best skin care oil known to us; it is truly excellent for the skin and especially for the capillaries and nerves embedded in it. However, since it is rather greasy it should be mixed with essential oils from plants, which provide the added bonus of enhancing the soothing effect of the St John’s wort oil. We have produced such an excellent mixture with our orangy-red-coloured Skin Oil. It would be a good idea to keep a bottle in your bathroom on account of its importance in skin care and as a massage oil.

If there is an insufficient secretion of the sebaceous glands, causing the skin to be rough and chapped, the application of a cream containing lanolin is indicated. Bioforce Cream is a natural and effective remedial cream that is soon able to revitalise the skin. This tried and tested cream contains lanolin as a base, as well as arnica, sanicle and other medicinal herbs that have proved their worth in skin care. Bioforce Cream is also recommended as a protection against sunburn, with the best results being obtained if it is applied to the skin the day before exposure to the sun.
